Our History
Our parent company, Century 21, was established in 1972 in California. Today, it is the largest real estate organization in the world with offices located world-wide. The Canadian rights to Century 21 are owed by Gary Charlwood. Century 21's Canadian headquarters is based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Carl Oake established Century 21 Carl Oake Realty Ltd in Peterborough in 1978. At that time, there were three other local Century 21 offices with an average of 12 Sales Representatives (or Brokers) per office (which was the normal size). In 1981, Century 21 Carl Oake Realty Ltd. purchased the assets of Century 21 Cooper Crowley Realty Ltd. and became the largest Century 21 office in the area at that time, with about 20 Sales Representatives (or Brokers). Century 21 Paine Real Estate closed at about this time.
In 1999, Century 21 Carl Oake Realty Ltd. and Century 21 Gray-Munro Realty Inc. merged to form Century 21 United Realty Inc. Brokerage*. Our biggest goal through all these buy-outs and mergers was to maintain a team atmosphere, and we did!
Today, Century 21 United Realty Inc. Brokerage* is the #1 Real Estate Team by far in the Peterborough Real Estate Board. Since 1978, we have improved on a steady and consistent basis. We have been a member of Century 21 Canada's prestigious Chairman's Circle since 1983. No other Century 21 office in Canada can boast this fact.
In 2000, we purchased and renovated the location that we had been renting since 1981. We now have one of the most modern real estate offices in the Peterborough Real Estate Board, with parking for more than 40 cars and a main floor entrance location.
